GameArena Opens Ladder Freeplay

War time is getting closer, GameArena have opened the BF3 16v16 ladder to Freeplay Mode:

Everything has tested well, so we are ready to start Freeplay for the 16v16 Conquest ladder.

Not that I'm anticipating a race to make Freeplay challenges, but I'm sure someone would complain if we didn't give a little notice, so:

Freeplay will be enabled at 6:30pm AEDST today.

We'll integrate the B2K maps as soon as they are released, but they won't be mandatory unless we get a unanimous vote in favour.

At the end of the freeplay period we'll take a quick vote on anything necessary (map sizes, ticket counts, health regen, spawning on squad leaders, if we should allow DLC unlocks etc) then get going. I'm roughly planning starting Season 1 in the second week of January.

The current map list is:

32 player maps: (100% of normal 32 player tickets)
Caspian Border, Seine Crossing, Damavand Peak, Kharg Island, Operation Metro

64 player maps: (70% of normal 64 player tickets)
Grand Bazaar, Teheran Highway, Operation Firestorm, Noshahar Canals

You can find the current ladder rankings here: http://www.gamearena.com.au/pc/games/title/battlefield-3/battlefield-3/l...

BF3 TDM To Support 24 Players On All Platforms

There have been plenty of reveals at GamesCom over the past few days, one of which involves the new game mode in Battlefield 3: Team Deathmatch. DICE has confirmed that Team Deathmatch in Battlefield 3 will support 24 players on all platforms, and will be without vehicles. Team Deathmatch will be focused entirely on tight infantry portions of regular maps.

While 24 players doesn’t sound like much compared to 64 players in conquest mode, remember that the map is tighter, the gameplay is more focused and intense. Bad Company 2?s squad deathmatch was limited to 16 players and never managed to feel inadequate. Which leads us to squad deathmatch in Battlefield 3: it hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s easy to imagine 12 player teams be split up into 3 squads in Team Deathmatch.

Origin Confirmed for BF3

There has been some confusion over how EA’s new Origin service will be integrated into Battlefield 3. Battlelog plays a big part, with the ability to browse servers and join a game directly from the browser. But according to DICE’s Daniel Martos, Origin will be required in order to play Battlefield 3 if the game is bought in retail. We don’t know whether this is true if the game is downloaded through a digital download service other than Origin, but we suspect Origin will be required no matter what.

This isn’t a big surprise, as many games these days require a client to run in the background, most notably games from Valve, where Steam is required. However, it can become an issue if the client is draining CPU power, which was the case with Origin during the Battlefield 3 alpha trial. Of course, it was only an alpha, so many tweaks and fixes are bound to happen. Another issue is memory usage among these clients, both Steam and Origin appear to use somewhere around 50 MB of memory during a game (but that can depend on the game and other system specs).

Last week, EA confirmed that Battlefield 3 would not be released on Steam due to certain Steam rules where DLC and patches must be provided via Steam.

GTX 570 Arriving 7th Dec

Big week in the gpu world coming up. Nvidia are set to get the release edge on AMD with its gtx 570 release slated for 7th dec :

SweClockers managed to get their hands on Palit's product information sheet for the upcoming GTX 570. We already wrote about the number of shaders before and the only thing that we are missing now is the price.

The GTX 570 is based on Nvidia's 40nm GF110 chip, has 480 CUDA Cores and works at 732MHz for the GPU, 1464MHz for Shaders and 3800MHz for 1280MB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 320-bit memory interface. The card has a dual slot cooler and will have a 225W TDP, at least according to the spec sheet.

The launch date is set for December 7th, only a few days before AMD's official launch of Cayman, at least if all goes according to plan. All we need now is the price tag and few benchmarks.

The expansion pack moves closer to release. Go to official website of BC2: Vietnam

GET READY FOR A WHOLE NEW WAR

Skimming the treetops in the legendary Huey helicopter, Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" blasts through its loudspeakers. Down in the jungles and rice fields below, the enemy is waiting for a chance to take you down with their T54 tanks and RPG launchers. Battlefield: Bad Company™ 2 just made the journey to a new place and time -- back to the 60's and the infamous Vietnam War.

Battlefield: Bad Company™ 2 Vietnam is a content-heavy expansion for the game that has sold more than 5 million copies and has been called "a better game than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" by The New York Times.

At the heart of this expansion lie four distinct, brand-new multiplayer maps based on the Vietnam War. Each map brings a new gameplay experience and fresh visuals, with characteristics such as foxholes, tunnels and dense jungles from where the enemy can launch surprise attacks. Also, 15 classic Vietnam-era weapons and 6 vehicles are available from the moment you go online.

All four multiplayer game modes from Battlefield: Bad Company 2, including the genre-defining Conquest Mode, will be playable in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam. The expansion is integrated with the full game persistence, so no matter what theatre of war you participate in, you will continue to level up your soldier as usual.

To set that unmistakable 60's atmosphere, the audio team at DICE has recorded all-new voice-overs for both sides of the conflict, based on authentic dialogue from the Vietnam War. On top of this, a rocking soundtrack with 2 hours worth of time typical tracks gives the expansion a truly characteristic sound.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is all-out multiplayer warfare at its absolute finest. With this new expansion, the battle moves to tropical Vietnam for a new chance to settle the score: Which team has the biggest skills, the smartest tactics, and the tightest squad play?
